Opening Concert of our 2023/24 Season a Huge Success!

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, music lovers gathered at the PC Ho Theatre for a mesmerizing performance by First Nations mezzo-soprano soloist Marion Newman. The opening concert of our 2023/24 season was nothing short of spectacular, with Newman’s soulful and powerful voice captivating the audience from the very first note.

The concert featured three *Canadian works,  Kati Agócs* – Shenanigan (2011), Christine Donkin* -Three Autumn Scenes (2011), Bramwell Tovey* – Ancestral Voices (2017) with soloist Marion Newman and after the break, Dvorak- Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, B. 178 New World. The orchestra played flawlessly, providing the perfect accompaniment to Newman’s vocals. The audience was clearly moved by the performance, with many members giving standing ovations at the end of each piece.

One of the concert’s highlights was Newman’s moving performance of Ancestral Voices. Her voice soared through the hall, filling the space with a rich, warm tone that left everyone breathless. Newman’s moving interpretation of this piece was both soulful and emotional, showcasing her range and versatility as an artist.

Overall, the opening concert of the season was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the stunning performance by Marion Newman. The evening celebrated music and art, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating the next performance.
