Robert Horvath Performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto #1

The Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Norman Reintamm, starts their exciting 2017/18 season on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.  The program includes Rachmaninoff‘s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F# minor, performed by pianist, Robert Horvath; and Rachmaninoff‘s Symphony No. 2 in E minor.

 

Robert Horvath is a pianist gaining wide recognition in the province of Ontario. A popular soloist with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, he has performed regularly with the CBSO since 2008 performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor and Bach’s single, double, triple, and quadruple keyboard concerti in one evening. In 2008, he performed Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue for Piano and Strings with the York Chamber Ensemble, and in 2003, was part of the Royal Ontario Museum’s grand re-opening in concert at Remenyi House of Music. He was featured soloist with the Canadian Sinfonietta in 2011, performing Liszt`s famous Hungarian Rhapsody No.2.

Composed and revised during a 26 year period, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F# minor boasts a youthful temperament and is boldly Romantic.  His Symphony No. 2 in E minor is powerful and hauntingly beautiful – one of Rachmaninoff’s best-known works.
