Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and Winter Dreams Concert

Norman Reintamm

Norman Reintamm
Artistic Director/
Principal Conductor

Since the time I have been with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, I have tried to mix a little bit of the “tried and true” with a little bit of a twist. In past seasons, we have included the sweet sounds of our concertmaster’s, Ines Pagliari, “Suzuki kids”, the Sultans of String, and the wonderful sounds of Jenavieve Moore singing Christmas carols.

Over the past two seasons, I have wanted to bring the inimitable “Nutcracker” to the CBSO stage. The “twist” this year is that local schools will be presenting a special video to go with the Orchestra playing the music. Also, this year I am bringing “Act 1” of Nutcracker to you. This is a wonderful musical representation of the preparations that take place on Christmas Eve and a prelude to the fantasyland of Act 2, with which we are all so familiar. You will hear the famous overture and march, and my favourite part which is the Christmas Tree scene, and ending off with the beautiful “Snowflake” waltz at the end of the 1st act. Together with Tschaikovsky’s “Winter Dreams” Symphony and Christmas carols, this will be a wonderful musical evening.
I hope that you will invite your friends, relatives, and everybody who enjoys “Christmassy/wintry” music for a wonderful evening out with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra.
