The YOU dance (Youth, Outreach, Understanding Dance), under the direction of Artistic Director, Lindsay Fischer, is comprised of the Apprentices of the National Ballet of Canada. YOU Dance is an outreach programme of the National Ballet of Canada designed to introduce ballet to new audiences, especially young people. The Apprentices of the National Ballet are aspiring young professional dancers who are selected through a rigorous audition process each year.

The YOU dance Apprentices of the National Ballet of Canada will be featured on the programme performing traditional ballet favourites such as the “White Swan” and “Black Swan” variations from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, the “Balcony Scene” from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev and other dance scenes set to the music of Bach, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich.

Cathedral Bluffs is also pleased to be collaborating with YOU dance to perform the world premiere of two new ballet works. 5 Tableaux from “Khosro and Shirin” is a work by the IRANIAN-CANADIAN COMPOSERS OF TORONTO (ICOT), ICOT-Perspolis 6which is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 by five Toronto-based composers and musicians. The work was commissioned by the NATIONAL BALLET OF CANADA and was composed by Afarin Mansouri, Pouya Hamidi, Keyan Emami, Saman Shahi, and Maziar Heidari. The ballet tells the famous historical Persian romantic tragedy of the love of King Khosro for his Queen Shirin.

The second world premiere on the programme will showcase another of the many talents of Maestro Norman Reintamm as he conducts his own ballet composition, An Unwritten Ballet. To complete the programme, the orchestra will also perform Finlandia by Sibelius.
